SAMPE Carolinas would like to invite you to our September 2012 dinner meeting on September 18th starting at 6:00pm. The event will be held at our usual location, the Whitewater Center in the Charlotte, NC area. The cost to attend is just:

This months speaker is Dr. Uday Vaidya from University of Alabama at Birminingham. Dr. Viadya is a Professor of Materials Science & Engineering and serves as the Director of the Materials Processing and Applications Development (MPAD) Composites Center at UAB. The MPAD center at UAB focuses on applications development from R&D leading to commercialization. Vaidya is also the Principal Investigator on the DOE Graduate Automotive Technology Education (GATE) Center of Excellence at UAB. He has published a book on Composites for Automotive, Mass Transit and Heavy Trucks, and has worked in the broad areas of composites for over 20 years. He is also a Principal and co-founder of Innovative Composite Solutions, a spin-off company specializing in niche composite products.
His presentation will focus on long fiber and continuous fiber thermoplastic composite applications developed from concept-to- prototype-to-commercialization in areas of personnel protection, aviation, ground vehicles, weapon systems, aviation and missile defense, automotive and mass transit/truck sectors. Basic science issues such as thermo-mechanical properties, fiber length and distribution, microstructure, nondestructive evaluation, impact damage tolerance, recycling and energy issues will be integrally addressed as part of the discussion
